I cannot tell you how many times brides show up at our store in near tears because the gown they received is nothing at all like the gown they tried on in the store or the picture used on the website they bought the gown from. The quality is worlds apart, beading is falling off and the dress doesn't look anything like the pictures online! That is the chance you're taking when you’re buying your gown online. The gown is usually not what you expected and now you're out money because it may be difficult or impossible to get your money back. Most of these sites do not even provide a phone number.
A good way to look at it is if it seems too good to be true, it normally is. You can further check into seeing if the gown is genuine or a knock off by checking your designer’s website for the list of authorized retailers. If you do not see the retailer listed on the designer's website then it is most likely a scam.
"I cannot stress enough the importance of using an authorized retailer to make your wedding dress purchase. Counterfeit websites do a great job trying to lure the potential buyer into thinking they are purchasing the same at an incredible discount. It's a SCAM, pure and simple!" -David Tutera, My Fair Wedding
If your looking for great deals there are trunk shows and off-the-rack sample sales from authorized retailers. If you have a favorite designer or style by a certain designer you can go to their website and look for a trunk show near you.
